List the subjects that your lesson ties in with: History, Visual Arts

Step-by-step with text and photos:
Plan out the design

Draw the design

Color the design

Write the legend explaining the flag

Extra tips for problem-solving: I did not have any problems constructing the art for this lesson. My tip would be to put any construction paper cut outs on last and color from background to foreground.

Art Vocabulary:
Line: the students will use elements of line when they draw their flags to depict and represent themselves
Color: the students will use certain colors that they feel best represent themselves within their flags
Texture:  the students can use different textures with the construction paper and different drawing utensils
Balance: the students will need to balance their flag as an entire with different elements and pictures making up the whole picture
